Ancient Arundel Castle will become a time machine this weekend (23 & 24 June) when visitors travel back several hundred years and experience the sights and sounds of the Middle Ages.

The 11th century castle, now the stately home of the Dukes of Norfolk, will be staging a Medieval Weekend during which the Sussex-based re-enactment and living history group Raven Tor will invite visitors to try out some "hands on history".

Raven Tor will set out to give an authentic taste of the way life was lived by inhabitants of the Castle in Medieval England. Knights, squires, archers and Men-at-Arms will meet at the sharp end of the event in fierce demonstrations of hand-to-hand combat and freestyle fighting.  This will be the nearest reproduction of tournament combat seen outside the 15th century.

Displays will show the development of costume, armour and weapons over the period, while the legendary skills of medieval England's feared archers will also be celebrated.  The Distant Trumpets Story Teller, a falconry display and a large tented encampment of crafts and displays will ensure visitors have plenty to see and experience over the weekend.

Bryan McDonald, Castle Manager said: "We're hoping to create an atmospheric occasion which will see Arundel Castle travel back in time to relive all its medieval glory."
