Crime in Arundel is at an average level compared to the rest of the UK - but surprisingly the quiet town is rocked by antisocial behaviour.

A crime-mapping website has revealed that vehicle crime and antisocial behaviour are both on the rise in the peaceful town.

Generally though the crime rate has dipped since last year.

But there are an average of 22 incidents of antisocial behaviour a month - as well as about four violent crimes each month.

Burglaries are fairly low - but there tends to be a spike in the summer months.

There is about one vehicle crime a month - and surprisingly no robberies to report for the last three months.

The villages surrounding Arundel also have an average number of crimes - but nearby Littlehampton has a higher crime rate.

If you want to check out the figures for yourself then logon to the Local Crime Mapping website.

Do you think that the town has a problem with antisocial behaviour? Is it because there are quite a few pubs in a small area?

It can get pretty rowdy in the high street on a Saturday night as we've noticed recently after a meal out in town. There's often a fine line between what some people would call anti-social and what others might deem to be drunken exuberance, although it's the opportunity for violence breaking out that makes people so fearful of this kind of behaviour.

Pubs are an easy target when it comes to blame for people's antisocial behaviour - and there's a good reason... they often are!

Landlords will no doubt correct me but we don't live in an economic climate where we can afford to throw every drunk out of the doors any more. Turning a blind eye as well as a profit seems to be the order of the day.

But antisocial behaviour of course covers a multitude of sins, even including littering - so maybe the town just has a lot of quiet messy folk :)
