WORTHING 1

CROWBOROUGH 1

Sussex County One

SO far this season it has seemed like Crowborough Athletic either win 5-0 or lose 5-0, so Saturday's 1-1 draw at Worthing United came as quite a shock.

Against the run of play, Liam Baitup put United ahead on 12 minutes, but the Crows hit back after the break through Tom Boddy. Dave Adams side had chances to take all three points, but in the end the Crows boss was happy with the point – remarkably the first draw they have been involved in this season.

"In a way I'm disappointed – we created some good chances," Adams said. "But away from home, after the Lancing and Arundel results, I'll take that. It's a nice little step – something to build on."

The only change the Crows made from last week's defeat of Horsham was the introduction of Jake Forward in place of Scott Taylor.

Crows started on the front foot and had a couple of early opportunities. Tom Saunders had a header well saved by Crows title-winning goalkeeper Mark Oldroyd before blazing the rebound over. Then Charlie Ottway was also denied by the United keeper.

However, Baitup made the Crows pay for poor marking by putting United ahead on 12 minutes.

Adams' men didn't let their heads drop and kept fighting away. Into the second half they were back on level terms. Jack Turner whipped in a free kick and Tom Boddy, sneaking in at the far post, fired home.

"The goal was something we have been trying to get into the players," Adams admitted. "We have got some quite good headers of the ball from set-pieces and with the right delivery we can score more goals from corners and free-kicks. We need to have the belief in ourselves to put our head in where it hurts."

Worthing nearly hit back through Ryan Alexander, while at the other end Tom Saunders went close to sealing all three points, but his turn and shot forced Oldroyd into a great save.
