There is no cash for road improvements on the A27 by Arundel this year or in the foreseeable future, it has been revealed.

The gridlocked road which goes round the town will not have any improvements - but nearby Chichester will be in line for an upgrade - albeit at a reduced level than was anticipated.

Local business groups have told the council that the problematic road is having an effect on their businesses.

But because of government cuts there will be no more money for the roads - despite Arundel residents crying out for improvements for many years.

The Chichester scheme won’t start before 2015 and it is being scaled back so that instead of having up to three flyovers - it will now only have one.

Other areas that have been keen to see improvements to the road network include nearby Worthing and Lancing.

The only hope for Arundel to get some money for these necessary road improvements is via ‘developers’ contributions’ which are made when there is a large scale development and the developers are duty-bound to provide some form of infrastructure.
