Arundel's top 10 summer gems - but do you know one that's better than these?

Arundel in the summer is a beautiful place to be with loads to see and do - so here’s a list of its top 10 summer gems - but you might have a different idea or totally disagree with these.

Ambereley Working Museum - this is an open-air msueum which is set in 36 acres and is dedicated to preserving the industrial heritage of the south east. Some  of the best exhibits include a narrow-guage railway and a vintage bus collection. There’s also a printing workshop and loads of knowledgeable and really enthusiastic volunteers.

Arundel Castle - this has got to be the town’s top attraction. It’s not just a castle - but also a beautfiful stately home which towers above the town. It is the home of the Duke of Norfolk and has been since 1067. It houses personal possessions of Mary, Queen of Scots, as well as a great collection ofo clocks, furniture, tapestries, armour and paintings.

The grounds are relaxing and beautiful and there are flower gardens to take some time out in.

The guides are renowned for their friendliness.

Swanbourne Lodge and Lake - A beautiful 18 acre lake, with scores of ducks waddling around which you can feed. There is also a good choice of rowing boats which can be hired. And after a hard row you can enjoy a lovely cream tea in the tearooms - which also serves breakfast and lunch. It’s open all year - so why not check it out this summer and again when the autumnal leaves transform it.

Arundel Lido - Swimming outside can’t be beaten and this has got to be one of the most beautiful locations to do it from with views of Arundel Castle. There are two heated pools and these are surrounded by grassed areas for picnics and a spot of sun-worshipping.

Fontwell Park Racecourse - are you feeling lucky? Then how about having a flutter on the horses at this beautiful race course. It also hosts loads of events and the venue can be hired for weddings. Definitely a good day out - and you may even come home richer!

Cruise down the river: Chill out on a laid-back cruise of the picturesque River Arun. The cruises take you past the castle and the downland scenery - which is well worth seeing and it’s particularly beautiful in the summer. For more info ring 01903 882609. Check out some photos of the river here.

Slindon Pottery: Slindon is very near Arundel and all the pottery here is hand made and you can watch it being created. Really interesting and makes you want to become a potter!

Arundel Wetland Centre: This is a great little spot and is surrounded by old woods and the castle provides a dramatic backdrop. The highlight is taking a boat safari around the area and spotting the wildfowl and water voles.

Arundel Cathedral: At the top of the hill this building Roman Catholic Cathedral along with the castle, it dominates the town. Definitely worth a look or maybe stay longer and enjoy one of the regular services if you haven’t already. The cathedral overlooks Arundel on the west bank of the river Arun. It was originally the parish church of St Phillip Neri and it became the cathedral of the diocese of Arundel and Brighton in 1970.

Arundel Park and Cricket Ground: Beyond Swanbourne Lake lies the park - which contains about 1,000 acres of open downland. And nestled in the park is one of the country’s most beautiful cricket grounds.
